FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Rules R Rules scored a three-quarter length victory in the sixth renewal of the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile Fillies on Saturday at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. The bay Florida-bred completed the six furlong sprint for 2-year-old fillies in a time of 1:14.78

Rules R Rules stalked Winning Image who set a fast early pace of :21.56 for the first quarter and :45.86 for the half. She was put into gear in the stretch by jockey Pedro Rodriguez and overtook her weary opponent to win the annual stake.

Trainer Michael Gorham notched his second career Finger Lakes stakes victory with the $67,950 earner. He also won the $50,000 Proud Puppy Handicap on July 17, 2004 with Border Bound. Gorham experienced disappointment the last time he saddled a horse that finished first in a Finger Lakes stake. Berry Bound won the $163,000 New York Derby in 2007 but was disqualified and placed second.

"That was a tough call that could have gone either way", said Gorham. "This was good today, she’s a good little filly."

With 994 career victories, Gorham is closing in on the 1,000 win milestone.

Rules R Rules earned her third victory in her fifth lifetime start and paid $10.20, $4.00 and $5.80. Winning Image finished second and returned $3.50 and $4.10. Thundered was third and paid $8.30.

The final stake of the 2009 season at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack is scheduled for Saturday, October 31. The $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile, a 6-furlong sprint for 2-year-olds, will be the feature race on the Halloween card.
