PEPPI KNOWS EARNS VICTORY IN FINGER LAKES JUVENILE

FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Peppi Knows survived a spirited stretch battle with Vital Argument to win the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile on Saturday at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. He completed the tenth renewal of the six furlong sprint for 2-year-olds in a time of 1:11.86.
The Kentucky-bred collared Vital Argument near the half mile pole and outdueled his rival to takethe final Finger Lakes stake of the season by a head. Trainer Samuel Keyrouze notched his first career stakes victory with the $78,400 earner.
"This is a good friend of mine’s horse", said Keyrouze. "I feel lucky to have saddled the horse here."
The bay gelding owned by Philip Messina was guided to the eighth race triumph by jockey Luis Belmonte. Belmonte earned his fifth career stakes win and first since 1997.
Peppi Knows scored his third victory in his fourth lifetime start and paid $8.30, $4.70 and $2.40. Vital Argument was a game second and returned $14.20 and $4.80. El Rocco was third and paid $2.10.
Live racing continues five days a week with an earlier 12:15 p.m. first race post time beginning Monday, November 2. The 2009 meet is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, December 5.
