Finger Lakes Racing Official Francis Hanks passed away on Saturday, November 7. Hanks served as Paddock Judge for the last eight seasons after working numerous years at the starting gate. Before he was an employee at the Western New York track, Hanks had a career as a jockey and rode at numerous small circuit tracks. A memorial ceremony was held in the Winner’s Circle on Monday before the running of the first race.

With 18 live racing days still left on the schedule, Chris Englehart tied his own record for most wins by a trainer in a single season at Finger Lakes. Majestic Karakorum won Monday’s fifth race to give Englehart his 141st victory of the meet and equal the mark he set in 2006.

Longshot of the Week: Chazino led a cavalry charge to the wire and won Monday’s final race under apprentice jockey Tadious Simpson. With the early pacesetters fading in the lane, the Patrick Crampton-trainee outkicked four other late runners to score the ninth race upset at odds of 23-1. Both career wins for the 4-year-old gelding have been achieved at the six furlong distance without receiving a great deal of betting support. His maiden victory occurred on August 24 at odds of 35-1.
